The filter in the handle

The clear handle holds two kinds of mineral beads. The water runs through them on the way to the face, so you can watch the filter do its work.

Two kinds of beads

Water from the hose enters the bottom of the handle, passes through a packed column of grey mineral beads and then red ones, and comes out at the face. The handle is clear, so you can watch it.

The beads are there to reduce residual chlorine, the disinfectant your water utility adds on purpose. They do not soften hard water, so white marks from calcium can still build up on the face.

Looking after the handle

  1. Look every few weeks

    Loose beads are working. A solid, packed block means the flow will start to drop.

  2. Check the washer

    If the spray weakens, grit in the hose washer is the usual cause. Rinse it and refit.

  3. Wipe the face

    Hard water leaves scale in the small holes. A soft cloth and a little vinegar clear it.

  4. Mind the light

    The LEDs need no care. If they stay dark, the flow may be too low to power them.
